FETP Alumni Grant Competition Announcement

July 23, 2013

Mission Vietnam is pleased to invite Vietnamese alumni of US Government funded FETP programs to submit proposals for the first 2013 FETP Alumni Grant Competition.

This competition is designed to assist you, as FETP alumni to build on concepts and ideas you explored during your time at FETP and/or enhance your subject matters of expertise by implementing a project with a budget of up to US$10,000.  Proposals (in English) are due to the U.S. Embassy Hanoi by 5:00 pm Monday, August 26, 2013.  Final selections will be announced in early September 2013.

We seek program activities that:

  • advance good governance, transparency, and rule of law;
  • develop civil society and promote capacity building among civil society groups;
  • foster the exchange of information and building of a professional media, including new media;
  • protect the environment and natural resources;
  • support sustainable urban planning for expanding communities;
  • encourage responsible and transparent conflict resolution;
  • promote access and opportunities for economically disadvantaged groups; and
  • advocate for the rights for ethnic minorities, women, and girls.

We are especially interested in grants that seek to build capacity in outlying provincesProjects that target disadvantaged communities and/or involve networking between FETP alumni will be given special consideration.

FETP proposals may include modest administrative expenses, including honoraria/partial salaries of grant implementers, but only when they are directly linked to the conduct of the specific grant program.  General operating expenses, long-term infrastructure costs and undefined miscellaneous or “overhead” expenses are not acceptable.  High costs to produce materials are also not a good use of the small grants program.

Grant funds may not be used to fund travel to international conferences, nor may they be used primarily for food and drink expenses.  Grant funds may be used to train trainers, but they may not be used to provide direct social services.

Grant funds may be used for seminars and workshops, but the proposals must describe the expected audience, content, and timeframe and justify the activity in terms of outcome and benefits to the subject areas described above.  Grant funds may be used for the publication of materials, but the proposals must describe the audience, content and means of distribution.

Please submit online here (or at this link: https://creator.zoho.com/pas.culture/form/113 ) by 5:00 pm, Monday, August 26, 2013.   Final selections will be announced by early September 2013.  For further inquiries, please contact us at (04) 3850-5000 (extension 6044 – Ms. Tam) or at leth2@state.gov.
