Prof. Tony Saich of the Harvard Kennedy School will talk to the faculty and students of FETP about his forthcoming book: Chinese Village, Global Market: New Collectives and Rural Development. Through the story of one village in China’s Pearl River Delta, Yantian, Prof. Saich explains a unique development model that have resulted in a remarkable economic and social transformation. His analysis is on the interaction between policy initiatives in Beijing, local interests, and Yantian’s close proximity to Hong Kong’s manufacturing and capital markets, which enabled the village to become a key destination for foreign direct investment.
