Letter from U.S. Ambassador to FETP Alumni

July 02, 2014

Hanoi, Vietnam

July 2, 2014

Dear Alumni of Fulbright Economics Teaching Program,

I write to welcome you to the family of Vietnamese alumni of U.S. government sponsored programs. As a graduate of the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program (FETP), I know you have worked hard to increase your expertise in subject areas important to Vietnam’s development.

The U.S. Mission to Vietnam looks forward to working with you to help advance the Comprehensive Partnership announced by President Obama and President Sang last year. Alumni of U.S. government programs such as FETP play a critical role in building the people-to-people ties so critical to strengthening the relations between nations.

2015 will mark the 20th anniversary of both the normalization of relations between the United States and Vietnam and The Fulbright Economics Teaching Program’s first graduating class, the program that Secretary of State John Kerry was proud to first support as a senator.

U.S.-Vietnam relations have advanced significantly in the last 20 years and our two countries share a bright future together. I believe you play a central role in this partnership and hope you can help us celebrate the 20th anniversary. I would encourage you to join our alumni activities and be an active member of the Vietnam-U.S. Alumni Club that was officially recognized by the Government of Vietnam on July 1, 2014. For further information, please contact Mr. Le Duong, alumni Coordinator at LeDT@state.gov.

Sincerely,

David B. Shear
