Demo class

  • Topic: "Competition among localities in attracting investment: perspectives from game theory and policy implications".
  • Topic summary: In many developing countries, in the context of budget decentralization and where localities have high economic growth ambitions, it is inevitable that there is competition among localities to attract foreign direct investment as well as to win a larger piece of the budget pie. This is a typical example of the so-called "prisoner's dilemma" in game theory. The lecture will analyze this competitive situation from a game theory perspective, then present policy recommendations on fiscal decentralization, investment environment, regional integration, and public governance.

Mekong – U.S. Partnership Program (MUSP): funded by the US Government for 5 years until 2026, the MUSP program will bring 20 rising young politicians from Laos to attend Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management at Fulbright University Vietnam for a master's degree in Public Policy - Policy Analysis. This is the last full scholarship admission year for Lao candidates enrolling in the 2024 - 2026 cohort.
