Luncheon "U.S.-China Trade War and the Underlying Stories"

On 28 September 2018, at the invitation of Leading Business Club (LBC), Dr. Vu Thanh Tu Anh, Dean of Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management, Fulbright University Vietnam, presented his talk about “U.S.-China Trade War and the Underlying Stories” at a luncheon for leading businesses.

 

At the moment, international economists believed that the underlying rationales leading to U.S.-China Trade War are not solely trade causes as reflected through billions or trillions USD worth of tarrifs. The war was explained to be the dispute of the two super powers over the global leading role in trade, finance, technology, geopolitics, etc.

 

Besides trade and techonology, when engaging in the trade war with China, U.S. probably aims at the Chinese development model, in which the government and SOEs are supposed to be the leading drivers of the economy. The model is deemed as threats by many Americans to competitive market mechanisms.

 

Dr. Tu Anh’s talk updated LBC members with latest events in the trade war set in the broader context of the conflict between U.S. and China over the global leading role and its implications on Vietnam’s economy and Vietnam enterprises’ business strategies.
